Final Evaluation
I like how all of my photos turned out in my final images because as you go through the shoot, the technique that I have used develops to show how I have experimented with different techniques in Photoshop to produce a wide range of images. Also, I like how I have laid out my photos in my final images because it takes you on a journey through the different techniques by changing slightly each time.
I like my coloured photos because I was able to emphasise the different colours and highlight because I was able to bring them out more using selective colour and vibrance in Photoshop. Also, I like how in my sunset coloured photos, I managed to exaggerate the oranges and red to help make the photo seem more magical and calming, and help show the energy the sky had that evening. I my coloured London photos because I had to experiment and test out different ways on how to bring colour to the sky due to the original photos being very dark and gloomy, I found, using burning, vibrance, and a photo filter helped bring out and emphasise the colour.
I like my half black and white and colour photos because I was able to experiment with Photoshop and the different settings to help make my photos seem more interesting, such as the gradient tool and marquee tool. When I wanted to use the gradient tool, I made sure I brought out the colour and detail a lot more then I usually do because I found when using the gradient tool it dulls the colour slightly. Therefore, I wanted to make sure that I still had the strong and bold colours in certain areas of my photo because I wanted to show the vibrancy in them. I like the affect this tool gave because it had a smooth transition between the coloured and black and white areas still giving the calming affect as if it was all coloured or all black and white. I used the marquee tool to help me produce half black and white and coloured photos by selecting certain areas and using the elliptical version, after I used the rubber tool and rubbed out the areas I wanted. I like the affect this gave me because it allowed me to experiment with different patterns and shape sizes in my photo to create unique and intriguing photos. This allowed me to explore different ways I could create an interesting photo by having circles inside of circles creating a strange affect or having one big circle which almost makes it seem like a painting.
I like my black and white photos because I was able to demonstrate the tone and texture in the clouds and sky a lot more easier by using shadows. To help emphasise the shadows, I used burning and dodging in different areas to create a stronger contrast. I like the gloomy and foreboding affect that this gives because they stand out from the rest of my photos which seem more peaceful and calming. By doing this, this shows how I understand how to develop my photos in different ways and experiment with different techniques in Photoshop to creates different affects.
Inspired my one of Simon Roberts photos, I decided to blend two of my photos together to create an alluring affect on the viewer. By doing this, I was able to experiment with different techniques, such as editing two photos separately to then bring them back together to create one photo. This helps me expand my final images further by having more of a variety of photos and demonstrate that I have understood Simon Roberts work and I can incorporate his ideas into my own, by using my photos and my sense of style and editing.

Work Record Shoot 2
Work Record Shoot 2
For this shoot I decided to go around London and take pictures of the landmarks around one area. This allowed me to take photos which is different to what I have taken before in the past and allow me to expand on my understanding of sky and what I could take to make it seem more interesting.
Research Artist
Simon Roberts

I like this photo because he has still been able to capture and interesting sky photo even though it is very cloudy. Additionally, I like how he has changed the camera settings so he could get a lot of texture from the clouds to make the photo seem more alive. This gives me ideas on how to take photos of the sky if it is a plain or cloudy day and by manipulating my camera settings I could get an interesting affect from the texture of the clouds.

I like how Simon Roberts has equally balanced everything in this photo, he has made the sky and beach meet the in the middle of the frame and the Ferris wheel is balanced out with the ride on the other side of the picture. Additionally, the sky is fairly plain which helps balance out the busy beach making the overall photo seem peaceful.
Both of these photos gave me inspiration for my next shoot because I can take interesting sky photo on a plain or cloudy day and use the environment around me to help balance out the photo and make my images seem more interesting. Therefore, I could equally distribute the sky and the buildings to create interesting photos where one half seems busy and the other is plain to make a balanced photo.

I like this image because the blue sky and the clouds stand out against the buildings creating a subtle contrast. Also, like how the sky surrounds itself around the buildings taking up majority of the frame. I like how the building are going into the sky which helps the eye follow along and eventually being led up towards the sky.

I like how the same affect of the eye being led up into the sky has been done here but it has more of a dominant presence because it's only the shard which is giving this affect. Additionally, due to the Shard being a triangular shape, it gives the affect that it is pointing up towards the sky, making the viewer eventually focus on it.

I like how the bottom right hand corner is busy and filled with objects but eventually evens out into nothing in the top left hand corner where the sky is. This creates the illusion that the different objects are leading and dragging the eye through the picture to then eventually lead to the sky.

I like this photo because I have managed to capture the texture in the sky by manipulating my camera settings. This makes the photo seem more alive and have another formal element in it to make it seem more interesting. Also, I like how the buildings at the bottom just frame the photo and is a lot darker to create and interesting contrast on the photo.

I like how the sky is fairly plain in the photo because it helps balance out the heavy detail of St Paul's Cathedral like Simon Roberts has done in his photos. This helped me explore in new ways on how to take photos when the sky is cloudy and end up with an interesting photo.
Worst Images

I don't like this photo because I did not have my camera settings set correctly, therefore, this made this photo overly exposed and you cannot tell what texture the sky had. Also, the photo seems too whitewashed which makes the buildings look too overly exposed as well. To improve this photo I would of had to pay attention to be exposure dial and set my setting correctly.

I don't like this photo because you are not able to see any texture or colour from the sky which makes the photo seem a bit empty and plain, suggesting that there was slightly too much cloud cover to take a photo like this.To improve this photo, I would wait for a bit so there was slightly more texture in the cloud or there was a bit of blue to make the sky seem more interesting.
AO3
Simon Roberts was my artist researcher because he takes many images of cloudy and plain days and I wanted to take pictures of more different styles of skies and step away from the plain blue skies. By dong this it would leave me with a wide range of skies for my to experiment in Photoshop and see what works best and experiment with the different techniques.
I was able to achieve this affect in my last best image because the sky was plain due to the cloud cover and the detail from the cathedral helped balance the overall photo. This photo shows how I experimented with Simon Roberts technique and manage to get a photo with similar outcomes.
AO2
For this photo shoot, I used my Canon 600D and EPS 18-55 lens, but to get the close up photos of the sky I used my EF 75-300 lens which allowed me to zoom in very close and capture more detail of the sky and other buildings which were far away, such as the Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. I had my ISO set to 400 due to the weather being cloudy and I had my shutter speed set to 1/125. I had my aperture set to 11.0 because I wanted to allow in more light because there was not a lot of natural light coming through from the sun.
Manipulating my Images

AO1
The artist I looked at for this shoot was Simon Roberts because he uses stereotypical British weather and landscapes to produce alluring photos. I wanted to create a similar affect with my photos and I wanted to use buildings with heavy detail on them and balance it out with a plain sky. This gave me the idea to do something similar, had stereotypical London landmarks and British weather. This helps me develop my ideas further by using stereotypical British scenery but not in the same way Simon Roberts has done it.
AO4
I wanted to take pictures of tourist attractions from London because I was born and raised there until I had to move, and I have always loved being in the city. Therefore, this makes it more personal to me because I have a strong connection with London and whenever I think of it, it reminds me of my childhood and all the times I have gone to visit since I moved. Additionally, I wanted to convert some of my photos into black and white because I was able to get the texture to be more dominant in the clouds and really stand out, this helps me develop my work further on and a step further on from what Simon Roberts has influenced me to do.

I like how these photos came out because I managed to build a lot of colour in them from originally not a lot, therefore, helping stand out a bit more because they have that extra formal element. Also, I like how I have partly converted some of them into black and white because the contrast between the colour and the black and white is strong creating an interesting photo and allowing me to explore different types of patterns. I like how I have converted a few of the photos completely into black and white because it creates a gloomy and foreboding affect which is a lot different to all of my other photos which I have done before.

For this shoot I decided to go to a filed near where I live and take pictures of the sunset. I wanted to take pictures of a sunset because it would of been a lot different to all of my other shoots which I have done before and would of helped me to produce a wide range of photos at the end of all of my edits. Additionally, I would be able to experiment with different settings in Photoshop to help the colour of the sunset stand out even further.
Research Influence
Stephen Shore

This was the main photo that influenced me to capture photos with the orange filter. I like this photo because the filter makes the colours on the building become more vibrant and stand out even more attracting the viewers to this photo. Additionally, I like how the filter gives a rustic tone to the photo, creating the feel that this was taken in an old town in America. Stephen Shore has set the buildings on the frame to make the illusion that the viewer is travelling through the photo to reach the sky.

I like this photo because it has been taken at a dusk time to create the overall mood seem more foreboding and mysterious. This gives me ideas to go out and take photos later on in the day so I can get a wide variety of shots and almost have a timeline going throughout the day with the different times I have taken photos. I like this photo because going from left to right the sky gradually gets darker, emphasising that mysterious mood as you travel across the photo.
Both of these photos influenced me to take sunset photos because I wanted to create the coppery and rustic affect with the orange in the first photo and I wanted to go out and take photos later on in the day like the second photos. Therefore, I decided to take photos around sunset to get both of these elements in my shoot. Originally, I was going to find an orange filter and create more daytime photos so they would have an interesting affect by the second photo influenced me to take photos later on in the day.

I like this photo because the bottom proportion of the photo is blacked out making the main focus be on the sky. Additionally, I like how I have positioned the sun to be in the middle of the frame to the outer part of the frame gets darker as you go further out (like how Stephen Shore's photo creates). I like how I have manged to change the settings on my camera correctly so I could get a nice vibrant sky which would nicely stand out.

I like this photo because it is very zoomed in and you can see more detail of the sky and trees, and you are able to see the sky through the leaves. Also, I like how I've managed to capture the clouds on the left hand side because they look like a group of horsed riding through the sea, therefore, making this image seem a little more interesting and magical. I like how the bottom part of this photo is blacked out because it creates a strong contrast with the vibrant sky.

I like how this photo is slightly darker then my other ones because it creates a sense of foreboding and mystery, which could portray how as the sun goes down and the night comes it becomes a lot more mysterious. Additionally, I like how it's darker because the highlights in the photo stand out a lot more creating that stronger contrast. Also, this photo creates a nice coppery look like Stephen Shore used in his photo.

I like how this photo has softer tones which helps it stand out that bit more. For this photo, I tried to make the same affect that Stephen Shore used where the sky goes from a lighter shade to a darker one. I like how the trees are black which helps the colour from the sky come through even more and create a stronger contrast between the lighter and darker shades.

I like how the tree circles into the frame which eventually leads into the frame and ends up at the sun creating a calm and peaceful mood. Also, I like how the colour still come through the branches and leaves which help fill the photo more. I like how the sky behind the tree is dark and the sky on the other side of the frame is lighter, creating a gradual gradient.

I like how the trees create the illusion of a diagonal line going downwards into the frame to give the photo the extra interesting element. I like how the sky is still vibrant but does not have too much going on because it helps balance out the business of the leaves from the tree. Also, I like how the outer edge of the photo is slightly darker then the centre because it creates more tone in the picture and gives the photo another interesting element.
Worst Images

I don't like this photo because I did not manage to capture the vibrance from the sky because I did not angle my camera correctly and I took this photo slightly too early for this shot because the sun had not set enough where the whole sky was filled with that orange tone. Also, the tree is not completely blacked out, therefore, it would slightly distract the viewer from the sky.

This photo was slightly too over exposed because I was not able to get the definition from the sun, instead it blurs out part of the photo and makes it difficult to see the sky. To improve this image, I would of had to set my aperture lower to let in less light so I could let in less light and have more definition in the sky.

For this shoot, I was influenced by Stephen Shore's photography work, he created interesting affects of the sky using different filters and shooting at different times of the day. I was inspired by this and I wanted to create the same affect with my photos, therefore I decided to try and merge the two different ideas together and create one big shoot.
I was able to achieve these ideas by taking photos around sunset to have that nice natural orange filter and get a gradient in the sky from light to dark. For example, my first best image has the orange affect from the sun which is the reflected into the sky/ clouds, and the further away you move from the sun the darker the sky gets.
Also, my fourth best image has the same affect of the orange sky and gradually getting darker, However, the colours are a lot more subtle in this photo compared to my other ones and Stephen Shores uses a lot of subtle colours in his work to create a calming and peaceful affect.
AO2
For this photo shoot, I used my Canon 600D and EPS 18-55 lens, but to get the close up photos of the sky I used my EF 75-300 lens which allowed me to zoom in very close and capture more detail of the sky. I had my ISO set to 200 for most of the shoot and for other times I set it to 400 because I was moving away and where I was standing was darker. I mainly had my aperture set to 5.6 because I was shooting into the sun and I wanted less light to get into my camera so I could get a better outline of the sun and sky.

The artist I looked at for this shoot was Stephen Shore and he takes pictures of the sky around stereotypical American scenery. However, I am not able to access American scenery, therefore, I had to take some of his ideas and elements from his photos and mix them with my own. I like his style of colour and the subtle colours and gradient in the sky, but I wanted to have the main focus on the sky and not have any other factors which could make it distracting. Therefore, I changed my camera settings accordingly and blacked out the trees and other scenery around so it would make the sky look more vibrant and create a stronger contrast.
AO4
To make my photos more personal to me and have my own style on it I made the sky the main focus and added extra elements (such as the trees) to make the photo seem more interesting and not become a distract (e.g. when the light shines through the branches). Also, I wanted to convert some of the photo into black and white to make to photo seem more interesting and stand out. Also, I wanted to demonstrate that I used Shore's style in my work but I also incorporated my own. This allowed me to experiment with different settings in Photoshop and develop my work even further and make them seem more interesting and unique.

I like how these photos turned out because the strong oranges and red make a dominant presence in all of my photos making them more intriguing and create an overall peaceful and magical affect. Also, I like how I converted some of them in to party black and white because the colours create a strong contrast with the black and white making my photo seem more alluring. By doing this, I was able to experiment with different techniques and and methods to come up with different patterns on where the black and white should go in my photos.
